John is an outback teacher, on his way back to Sydney for the summer break. En route he arrives in the rough outback-mining town of Bundanyabba planning to stay overnight. But his one night stretches to five as he plunges headlong toward his own destruction.
Alcohol, roo shooting and gambling- the terror of the outback is depicted with brutal enthusiasm in Ted Kotcheff’s 1971 film that was re-released recently after an extensive search- the only print of the film found in a warehouse in Pittsburgh, marked “for destruction” An Australian masterpiece that has been miraculously rediscovered.
